What are Dentures?
Dentures are removable false teeth installed to replace missing teeth. They are made of acrylic, nylon, or metal and are custom-made to fit the patient’s mouth.
At Dr. Kamila Modern Holistic Dentistry, we will assess and recommend the best dentures for each case. There are two types of dentures we can recommend, partial or complete dentures.
To replace all the teeth in either the upper or lower jaw, you will need complete dentures. Partial dentures are the best when you have only a few missing teeth. They are held in place by suction or metal clasps.
Loss of teeth affects your appearance, speech, and eating ability. Installing dentures can help to eliminate these problems and strengthen the jawbone.
Types Of Dentures You Can Get
Dentures are classified based on the material used to make them. You can get any of the following types of dentures.
- Acrylic dentures consist of a hard acrylic material molded according to the patient’s mouth. They are the most common type of dentures.
- Nylon dentures. They are lighter and more flexible than acrylic dentures. Additionally, they are more resistant to staining.
- Metal dentures consist of a metal framework covered with acrylic or nylon. They are more durable than acrylic or nylon dentures and more expensive.
Dentures require regular care and cleaning. Wearers should remove and clean them at least twice a day. Also, they should soak them in a cleaning solution overnight. We will teach you the proper methods to care for your dentures at home.
When you have dentures, you need regular visits to the dentist for examination and denture adjustments.
Proper care of dentures ensures they can last many years before you need to replace them.
Pros of Dentures
- Improved appearance
- Improved speech
- Improved ability to eat
- Prevention of tooth shifting and jawbone shrinking
Cons of Dentures:
- They can be uncomfortable at first.
- They can be hard to get used to.
- They require regular care and cleaning.
- They may not be as durable as natural teeth.

Dentures with Dr. Kamila
Our experienced dentist may recommend complete or partial dentures if you have lost multiple teeth. Dentures can restore your appearance as well as your ability to eat and speak with confidence.
Dentures have been used for centuries as a reliable tooth replacement option. These removable oral appliances can help restore the function, beauty and health to your smile. Our dentist can discuss dentures as one of your replacement options, whether you are missing all or only some of your original teeth. The two kind of dentures available are complete dentures and partial dentures.
Complete Dentures — Used to replace a full dental arch, complete dentures are recommended to patients missing all of their teeth in one or both of their dental arches. To keep your denture from shifting in your mouth, and depending on your specific oral health needs, we may recommend using a denture adhesive.
Partial Dentures — Used to replace many, but not all, teeth in a dental arch, partial dentures are recommended to patients who still have remaining natural teeth. In these cases, your partial denture will likely include a thin set of clasps attaching it to your remaining teeth for a secure fit.
Our dentist may recommend complete or partial dentures to restore your smile if you are missing multiple teeth; dentures can improve your ability to properly speak and eat, restore your natural facial volume, and enhance the overall beauty of your smile. Your dentures will be custom made to fit your smile comfortably, aesthetically and securely. We invite you to call or visit us soon to learn more about how dentures can improve your smile!
More on Dentures
Are you missing teeth and want to improve your smile and your life? Dentures can enhance your smile and make eating easier.
Our custom made dentures are removable dental appliances designed to replace your natural teeth. We offer a wide range of denture options to suit your smile needs. Dentures allow you to speak and chew comfortably while boosting your confidence!
Conventional Dentures (Full Denture)
Conventional dentures, also known as full dentures, are for patients who have lost all healthy tooth structure. These dentures are completely removable, giving you control over when you want to wear them.
Partial Denture
Also known as a removable dental crown, partial dentures bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. The major difference between conventional bridges and partial dentures is the ability to remove partial dentures. You have complete control over when you want to wear them! These dentures are only possible if some healthy tooth structure is salvageable.
Care and Maintenance
Your dentist will provide you with all the at-home care knowledge to ensure that your mouth is healthy, your dentures are comfortable and that they last for a long time. You will need to wear your dentures continuously for the first few weeks in order for your gums to adapt.
FAQ
What are dentures made of?
Dentures are now made up of resin that is molded to fit your mouth comfortably.
How do you clean them?
Run clean water over them to remove any food particles then brush them with a denture brush or a very soft toothbrush using denture cleaner.
Can I use my regular toothbrush/ toothpaste to clean my dentures?
No! Regular toothpaste and electric brushed are to strong and abrasive for your dentures. Over time they will break down your denture material.
Can I sleep with my dentures in?
No, give your gums some time to relax. Take your dentures out while sleeping and keep them submerged in warm water so they don’t dry out and lose their shape.
